Identity-verification company IDScan has confirmed that an unauthorized third party accessed customer information stored in its cloud platform.

The incident gained attention after hackers advertised a database they claimed contained roughly 153 million driver's-license scans. IDScan has confirmed the intrusion, but the 153 million figure comes from the hackers and has not been independently confirmed by the company.

According to IDScan's breach notice, potentially affected information includes full names and driver's-license or other government-issued identification numbers. The company became aware of the incident around September 1 and publicly disclosed it September 4. The Record from Recorded Future

Unlike a stolen password, a driver's license number isn't something you can simply change from an account settings page. That's what makes breaches involving identity-verification companies particularly concerning.
